Town Hall Hours
PLEASE DO NOT IGNORE YOUR MOTOR VEHICLE EXCISE TAX BILL EVEN IF YOU NO LONGER OWN THE VEHICLE, HAVE MOVED FROM FOXBOROUGH OR MASSACHUSETTS OR IF YOU MAY BE ENTITLED TO AN EXEMPTION.
• An application for Abatement does not stay collection of the Motor Vehicle Excise Tax. In order to avoid interest charges and fees, your excise tax bill must be paid THIRTY (30) days from the bill's issue date.
• An Abatement Form (available on this web site or in the Assessors Office at the Town Hall) may be filled out and submitted with supporting documentation to the Assessors Office. Applications for abatement must be received by the Board of Assessors within three (3) years after the excise was due, or one year after the excise was paid, whichever is later.
Reasons for Abatements:
Please contact the assessor’s office for further details on eligibility and required documentation for abatements and exemptions.
• In the event abatement is granted, the amount abated will be refunded to you if you owe no prior balances.
• Refunds are processed by the Collector's Office within 6 - 8 weeks. You can reach them at (508) 543-1216. Note: Refunds and Abatements of less than $5.00 may not be granted and no abatement may reduce the excise bill to less than $5.00. (M.G.L. Ch. 60A) For questions regarding the PAYMENT of your excise bill, contact the Collector's Office at (508) 543-1216.
