Public Records Law
The Town Clerk's Office is responsible for maintaining a variety of documents including, but not limited to, vital records such as marriage, birth and death certificates, voter registrations and related documents, street lists, meeting minutes from the various boards and committees in town, business certificates, town meeting records, and many more documents. Many, but not all, of the documents maintained by the Town Clerk's Office are considered public records. As such, these documents are open to viewing by the public. The Town Clerk or any other custodian of a public record shall make a record available for viewing or inspection within ten (10) days following receipt of a request for inspection of the same. This right to view public records is mandated by M.G.L. Chapter 66, Section
10, otherwise known as the Public Records Law.
Members of the public may also request copies of any documents that are considered public records. TheTown Clerk's Office is permitted to charge a reasonable fee for the copying of the documents requested. The office may also charge a research fee based upon the hourly rate for the lowest paid personnel within the office who is capable of performing the research on the documents requested. The Foxborough Town Clerk's Office charges $0.20 per page for printed documents and $0.50 per page for computer generated documents.
